Bill Gates has invested heavily in stock companies. Recent data shows that out of his $48 billion wealth, he invested around 79% only in four companies. That’s quite surprising, raising curiosity about why he is so confident in these four companies that he invested a huge amount in them. Finance Yahoo confirms the news and states that “The Gates Foundation Trust is the repository for the stocks that support the billionaire’s charitable endeavors.”  

Right now, Gates holds around 29 stocks in total. However, out of all, 4 dominates the allocation. Bill Gates’ portfolio funds philanthropic work in education,  health, and sustainability. Yahoo Finance further added that “Most of the Trust’s key holdings have long track records of success.”

Microsoft, Berkshire, Waste Management, and Caterpillar Lead the Pack

Microsoft is the Gates’ largest and legacy company. At the same time, Berkshire Hathaway Buffett’s conglomerate is a trusted long-term bet. Similarly, Waste Management company offers environmental services with a strong dividend history, and Caterpillar is an infrastructure giant aligned with Gates’ climate interests.

These four stocks anchor the trust’s performance and liquidity. According to Stock Circle,Bill Gates’s top holdings (October 2025) include Microsoft Corporation (MSFT), a global technology company known for its software, consumer electronics, and related services.”

Gate’s foundations quarter 2 report states that “Microsoft Corp with a value of $13B, Berkshire Hathaway Inc Class B with a value of $11.7B, Waste Management Inc with a value of $7.38B, Canadian National Railway CO with a value of $5.7B, and Caterpillar Inc with a value of $2.85B.”

The tickertracker states that “Examining the 13F form, we can see an increase of $5.97B in the current position value, from $41.8B to $47.8B.” 

All four companies Bill Gates is investing in have shown resilient earnings and have a global reach. Analysts say that Gates prefers only those firms that have strong governance and transparency. Similarly, another factor of consistent cash flow has also been seen in his favored companies. 

Tech giants with diversified exposure and those perfectly aligned with Gates’ infrastructure and climate goals are considered ideal by Bill Gates. 

Analysts say that Gates’ strategy reflects his belief in “durable capitalism.” He invests in firms he believes have compounding returns. As Yahoo Finance states, “Most of the Trust’s key holdings have long track records of success.”
